How listing works

One fee, one vehicle, one government check. Here is every step, and what happens in each case.

1. Which vehicles can be listed
Any vehicle that holds a valid Indian registration: cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, taxis, goods vehicles, buses and tractors. The government VAHAN record decides which type your vehicle is. You do not choose it, and you cannot change it.
2. Sign in and pay ₹99
You confirm your WhatsApp number with a one-time code, then pay ₹99. It is a one-time fee for one vehicle. There is no free listing, no commission when the vehicle sells, and no percentage cut. Before you pay, you confirm that you have read our Refund & Cancellation Policy and Terms & Conditions.
3. Type your registration number
You type the registration number yourself. We ask the government VAHAN database once and show you what it holds. Typing the same number again is answered from our own record and does not use up a check.
4. What you see when the vehicle is found
We show you the full VAHAN record for your vehicle — make, model, body type, fuel, engine, seating, weights, permit and fitness dates, insurance, road tax and pollution certificate, exactly as the registry holds them. These details are locked and fill your listing automatically, so buyers see registry data and not seller claims. You then add what only you know: condition, photos and your asking price.
5. What you see when the vehicle cannot be listed
If the record shows the registration is blacklisted or cancelled, the vehicle cannot be listed. If the record is found but does not say what kind of vehicle it is, we cannot list it either — and there you get your full ₹99 back. If the record shows the registration is suspended, or a loan is still active, or a permit or fitness certificate has expired, we warn you but you can still list. The warning is shown to buyers too.
6. What you see when there is no record
Some vehicles, mostly older ones, have not been digitised yet. If the database holds no record for your number, you choose one of two things: take a partial refund of ₹40 and stop, or use one free retry with a corrected number or a different one. If the retry also finds no record, both checks in your fee have been used and there is no refund.
7. What you see when the registry does not answer
The government database is sometimes unreachable. That attempt does not count as a check and retrying is free. If no check on your payment has been completed at all, you can ask for the full ₹99 back instead.
8. Photos and going live
You add photos of your vehicle — between seven and eight slots depending on the type, with four required. Our image engine checks that the number plate in your first two photos matches the registration number you paid for, and masks personal information in the rest. Your listing then goes live straight away. Buyers contact you on WhatsApp; your number stays private until a buyer chooses to reveal it.

When money comes back

What happenedWhat you get back
Your vehicle was found in the databaseNothing. The check was done and delivered, whatever you think of the details
The record says the vehicle cannot be listed (blacklisted or cancelled)Nothing. The check was done and delivered
No record for your first number₹40 on request, or one free retry instead — your choice
No record for the retry eitherNothing. Both checks in your fee have been used
The registry did not answer and no check was completedFull ₹99 on request, or keep retrying free
The registry did not answer after an earlier check had already found no record₹40 on request
You were charged twice for the same vehicleThe extra ₹99, in full
You paid but never used it within 7 daysNothing. The payment lapses
The records were found but do not say what kind of vehicle it isThe full ₹99. We cannot list it, so you get all your money back. This one does not expire

A paid check is valid for 7 days from payment, and only on the WhatsApp number that paid. After 7 days it can no longer be used to start a listing, and a refund can no longer be requested on it. The one exception is the refund for a vehicle we could not identify. If the record does not say what kind of vehicle it is, we cannot list it. We close the listing and return the full ₹99 to the card or account you paid from. You do not need to ask, and that refund does not expire. Every other refund request is raised from the listing page itself, and each one is reviewed by us before the money is returned. Full details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about selling on VahanBazaar

How do I sell my vehicle on VahanBazaar?
Verify your phone via WhatsApp OTP, pay the ₹99 verified listing fee, enter your registration number for VAHAN verification, add 4-8 photos of the vehicle, set your price, and publish. Buyers contact you directly via WhatsApp.
What is a Verified Listing and is it worth ₹99?
For ₹99, we verify your registration number against the government VAHAN database. Verified listings display a green badge and appear higher in search results. There are no commissions when your vehicle sells, so the fee is the only cost you'll ever pay.
How much does it cost to list my vehicle?
₹99 one-time, whatever the vehicle. There are no commissions, no hidden charges, no percentage cuts when your vehicle sells. You keep the full sale amount.
How long does it take to sell a vehicle on VahanBazaar?
Most verified listings receive their first buyer enquiry within 48 hours. Average time-to-sale is 7-21 days depending on city, price, and vehicle condition. Tier-1 cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru) typically sell fastest. Popular models under ₹5 Lakh move the quickest.
Do you buy my vehicle directly?
No. VahanBazaar is a peer-to-peer marketplace. You sell directly to individual buyers at your asking price. This typically yields 10-20% more than dealer trade-in quotes because there is no middleman margin. You negotiate directly, agree on a price, and complete the transaction yourself.
What documents do I need to sell my vehicle?
To list: RC (Registration Certificate), valid insurance, PUC certificate. Service history is optional but helpful. For the actual transfer after sale: Form 29 (notice of transfer), Form 30 (report of transfer), and NOC from the financer if the vehicle is under loan. Commercial vehicles also need a valid permit and fitness certificate.
Which cities does VahanBazaar operate in?
VahanBazaar operates across 51+ Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and all major Tier-2 cities like Jaipur, Indore, Chandigarh, Kochi, Lucknow, and more. Buyers and sellers connect pan-India.
Is selling my vehicle on VahanBazaar safe?
Yes. All sellers verify via WhatsApp OTP. Verified listings go through government RC verification. Buyer contact details are masked until they purchase a reveal, so your number stays private until a serious buyer opts in. All transactions happen directly between buyer and seller with full transparency.
