Challan Check by Vehicle Number

Pending traffic challans against a vehicle, by registration number. Date, offence, fine amount and whether it has gone to court, so you know what may still be pending before you pay a token, or what you owe on your own vehicle.

You get one of three answers

The pending total sits at the top of the report in large type. Every challan follows as its own card.

Clear

No pending challans

The traffic authority database holds no unpaid challan against this registration number at the time of the lookup. This reflects the challan records we could read at the lookup time. The report states the date and time it was checked.

Pay first

Pending challans

One or more unpaid challans. Each card shows the challan number, date, offence, fine amount and status. For a used vehicle, have the seller settle them before the transfer: in some states the RTO will not transfer with dues pending.

Stop

Challan in court

At least one challan has been sent to court. It is no longer settled through the usual challan portal. It is dealt with through the court, or at a Lok Adalat sitting. Do not take over a vehicle with a court challan unresolved.

Why check challans before you buy or sell

A challan is recorded against the registration number. If it is unpaid at the time of sale, you may be the one asked to clear it.

What the report shows

Pending total

The number of unpaid challans and the total fine amount, in large type at the top.

Each challan

Challan number, date, offence as recorded, fine amount and current status, one card per challan.

Court flag

Challans sent to court are marked separately, because they are settled through the court.

As of the lookup time

The list as the traffic authority database returned it at the time of the check. A challan issued or paid after that is not reflected until a fresh check.

PDF you keep

Download the report before you leave. We keep no copy. The same device can reopen it free for 24 hours.

What is not included

This check reads the traffic authority database for pending challans. It does not read the RC record.

How it works

1

Enter the number

Type the registration number as it appears on the plate. Standard series and Bharat series both work.

2

Pay ₹99

UPI, card or net banking. One payment, no subscription. Your mobile and email are taken first so a refund can always reach you.

3

Read the list

The report renders in a few seconds. Download the PDF and hand it to the seller: the total at the top is the amount to settle before any money changes hands.

If the check cannot be completed, you see this message: "We could not complete this check. Your ₹99 will be refunded to your original payment method within 7 working days." A report that shows a verdict is a delivered report and is not refundable, whatever the verdict says.

If there are pending challans

Challans are settled with the state traffic authority that issued them, or with the court if they have been sent there.

  1. For a used vehicle, ask the seller to pay the pending challans and show the receipts before you pay a token.
  2. Court challans need the seller to appear, or to settle at the next Lok Adalat sitting. Wait until the record is clear.
  3. Run the check again after payment. Cleared challans drop off the list once the authority updates its record.
  4. Then check the paperwork side: RC Details (₹99) for status, loan and document validity, or the Used Car History Check (₹149) for the RC record and the challans in one report.

The other checks

Every check reads one registration number and shows one report. Pick the question you need answered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about traffic challans and this check

How do I check pending challans by vehicle number?
Enter the registration number on this page and pay ₹99. The report reads the traffic authority database and lists the pending challans against the number: challan number, date, offence, fine amount and status, with the total at the top. Challans sent to court are flagged separately.
Do challans transfer to the new owner?
A challan is recorded against the registration number, so it can still be pending after a sale. Some states will not complete an ownership transfer while challans are pending. Have the seller clear them first.
What is a court challan?
A challan that was not paid within the allowed time is sent to court. It is no longer settled through the usual challan portal. It is dealt with through the court, or at a Lok Adalat sitting. The report marks these separately so you do not take over a vehicle with one unresolved.
Does the report include paid challans or the RC details?
No. It lists pending challans only, and it does not read the RC record. For registration status, owner, insurance, fitness, loan and blacklist, run RC Details, or take the Used Car History Check, which puts the RC record and the pending challans in one report.
Does it work for bikes, autos and trucks?
Yes. Any vehicle registered in India: cars, motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, taxis, buses and trucks. You only need the registration number.
What if the check cannot be completed?
If the traffic authority database cannot be read and no report is shown, you see this message: We could not complete this check. Your ₹99 will be refunded to your original payment method within 7 working days. A report that shows the list, including No pending challans, is a delivered report and is not refundable.
