You get one of three answers
The owner count sits at the top of the report in large type. The sequence of owners follows underneath it, in the order the registry recorded them.
First owner
The registry shows one owner since registration. The name on the record, shown as first name and initials, should match the person selling to you.
Second or third owner
The vehicle has changed hands once or twice. The report lists each owner in order. Ask why it was sold each time and whether the last transfer was completed at the RTO.
Fourth owner or more
Many owners in a short life is worth asking about. The report shows the full sequence so you can ask the seller about every link.
Why the owner count matters
"Single owner, company maintained" is the most common claim in a used vehicle advertisement. The VAHAN record is where it can be checked.
- The advertised count can be wrong Dealers and brokers list the vehicle as first-owner because the RC card they hold still shows the original owner. The registry may already show two or three transfers.
- Transfer may not have happened If the seller's name is not the latest owner on the record, the previous transfer was never completed. You would be buying from someone the registry does not recognise as the owner.
- Many owners, short gaps A vehicle that changes hands every year is worth asking about. Ask the seller why each owner sold it.
- Resale value Owner count is one of the first things the next buyer, and any dealer taking the vehicle in exchange, will ask. A genuine single-owner record is worth money.
- Price negotiation A third-owner vehicle priced as first-owner is a straightforward reason to ask for a lower price or walk away.
What the report shows
The owner count
The current owner's serial number from the registry, in large type: 1st, 2nd, 3rd owner and so on.
Sequence of owners
Every owner on the record, in chronological order, with their serial number. Names are shown as first name and initials.
Current owner
The current owner's position and masked name, so you can confirm the seller is the person the registry recognises.
As of the lookup time
The record as the registry returned it at the time of the check. A transfer completed after that will not appear until the registry updates.

What is not included
This check reads the ownership sequence from the VAHAN database. It does not read the rest of the RC record or any other register.
- Full names, addresses or phone numbers Every owner's name is masked to first name and initials on our side before it reaches you. Father's name, address and mobile number are never shown.
- Transfer dates The registry's owner history gives the sequence of owners, not the date of each transfer. If you need the registration date, run RC Details.
- RC status, insurance, loan or challans Those come from the RC record and the traffic authority database. Use RC Details, Blacklist Check, Challan Check or the Used Car History Check.
- Why the vehicle was sold The registry records who owned the vehicle, not why it changed hands. Ask the seller, and use the sequence to check the story.

Read the owner sequence
The report renders in a few seconds. Download the PDF and compare the latest owner on the record with the seller's ID before you pay a token.
If the count does not match the advertisement
A mismatch is not always fraud, but it always needs an answer before money moves.
- Ask the seller to explain each owner on the list and show the transfer papers for the last one.
- If the seller is not the latest owner on the record, the earlier transfer is incomplete. Do not buy until the RTO shows the seller as owner.
- Use the real count to re-price the vehicle, or walk away if the story does not hold.
- Run RC Details (₹99) for the registration date, loan flag and document validity, and Challan Check (₹99) for fines that may still be pending against the number.
The other checks
Every check reads one registration number and shows one report. Pick the question you need answered.
